Duchess Residences

Singapore | Residential, 2022

“I should say;
The house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.”

This penthouse pays homage to the admiration of natural materials and celebrates how tactility juxtaposes and corresponds. It is inspired by affluence, motivated by galleries and hotels; A quiet luxury.

The feeling of ‘coming home’ begins from hearing the ding when you stepped out of the lift. As the lift door opens, the weight of the world is left behind (momentarily, of course). Hence, the private lift lobby and hallway act as a signifier of ‘coming home’. By gradually introducing the vertical, natural oak-veneer panels, which is the design language that governs the project, it serves as a warm invitation leading them into the rest of their home.

As we move deeper into the space, we introduced softer curves on the carpentry and even on the ceiling to envelope the living space; A space the family spends most of their time at. The curves on the ceiling strategically avoid the existing ducted air-conditioning ventilation grilles, turning it into a beloved detail of the living room. This detail of the ceiling extends to the vertical elevation of the travertine feature wall.

The second level of the penthouse is essentially a private brood meant for the couple. Therefore, we reconfigured the doors location of the existing two bedrooms, transforming it into a suite for the couple, with a walk-in wardrobe. We introduced a darker shade into the palette with tones of greys.

A refined, almost delicate sense of luxury;
Of coming home, of dreaming.
